Our new commissions for the 2012 Edinburgh Art Festival will offer visitors a promenade through the capital, celebrating its rich architectural heritage with a series of interventions by leading and emerging contemporary artists.
Turner Prize winner Susan Philipsz will unveil a new work entitled Timeline. Inspired by Edinburgh’s famous One O’clock Gun and its relationship to the city, Philipsz’ work will plot a series of short sound installations across multiple sites.
Andrew Miller is producing our Festival pavilion in St Andrew Square. Constructed from salvaged materials, the pavilion will become the central hub for Edinburgh Art Festival throughout August and will host a series of unique events. ~ in the fields present idealised Scottish landscapes through a tourist view finder which is networked to and controlled by an interactive work in their solo show at Inspace.
Rose Street will be the focus for a series of projects by early career artists including Kevin Harman, who has come to critical attention for his simple yet challenging interventions with the structure and furniture of the urban environment. Anthony Schrag, Edinburgh Art Festival’s ‘Tourist in Residence’, will deliver a regular series of performative Promenade tours, revealing alternative views and experiences of the world heritage city.
In addition, visitors to the city will be able to enjoy previous Edinburgh Art Festival commissions by Turner Prize winners Martin Creed and Richard Wright.
