With venues spread the length and breadth of the city, it is impossible to experience Edinburgh Art Festival without taking in the spectacle of the city itself. For 2011, we are delighted to bring you a specially commissioned map of the city and participating festival venues drawn by artist J. Maizlish.
For this, our first artist-drawn map, we specifically wanted to commission someone who didn't yet know the city, so that they could experience navigating the city and our festival venues as a first-time visitor might. American artist J. Maizlish (based in London) spent several days in Edinburgh at the end of May, visiting each venue on foot. His previous work has included maps of Oxford and America.
The result is his exquisite pen and ink drawing, Sites of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2011. We hope you find it a useful and pleasurable aide to your visit.
