Robert Ryman at Inverleith House

Recognised as one of the most influential artists of his generation, the American painter Robert Ryman (b. 1930) has opened up new possibilities for the development of painting and art during a career spanning fifty years. His first solo exhibition in Scotland has been curated by the artist and collector Urs Raussmüller, whose collaborations with Ryman for over three decades can be seen through major exhibitions, publications and in the renowned display of Ryman paintings at the Hallen für neue Kunst, Schaffhausen, Switzerland. At Inverleith House, paintings dating from 1963 to the present have been installed by Raussmüller and Ryman for each of its seven naturally-lit rooms – continuing the artist’s exploration of the interconnections between his paintings and light and space. On loan from the Raussmüller Collection, with additional works from the artist, the exhibition is accompanied by a new publication and marks the 20th anniversary of the exhibitions programme at Inverleith House.
