Au fil d’Ecosse

This exhibition, produced specially for the Festival, presents the work of Cyril Barrand, a French artist currently resident in Scotland.

A former student of the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg (19871992), then itinerant artist (travelling exhibition of Cypriot and French artists in 2001, residencies in Portugal in 1995 and Poland in 2002), he has in the past exhibited in France, Belgium, Greece and Poland.

The cumulative effect of his work conveys a concept of passing time, aspiring to explore the archaeology of thought and image. By approaching certain elements or situations ironically, perceptions are shifted, leading to a questioning of preconceptions and beliefs and, ultimately, a clarification. The assembly and juxtaposition of a multitude of forms, materials, objects and traditional and popular designs make reference to everyday routine, to rural life and history.

A Scottish artist, performance poet John Hudson, is associated with this project. He is a poet whose work has appeared in print and in installations all over Britain, in France and on the worldwide web.
Au fil d’Ecosse is an oblique gaze at Scotland, the exhibition’s images and words taking us on a journey across the country.
