Drop in Holiday Workshops

Morning session 10am–12 noon, afternoon session 1–3pm

£6 per session inclusive of entry into Jupiter Artland for the child only, booking recommended.

Two hour sessions designed to engage kids with the artland in a bite size way. They run throughout the summer and each session has it’s own theme ranging from build your own Charles Jencks land forms to a “Purple Haze” painting workshop inspired by Anya Gallacio’s crystal cave.

Suitable for 5 to 13 year olds - teaching will be in age appropriate groups.

Free return bus to Jupiter Artland

Departs from Queen Street at 10.30am, arrives at Jupiter Artland at 11am.

Departs from Jupiter Artland at 3pm, arrives at Queen Street at 3.30pm.

Free admission. Book tickets.

A free return bus to Jupiter Artland is available once daily from the city centre during the Edinburgh Art Festival, leaving from and returning to the corner of Queen Street and Frederick Street. 

Tickets for the bus also allow free entry to Jupiter Artland. Booking essential.

Please note that this bus will only run Thurs-Sun. Jupiter Artland is closed to the public Mon-Wed.

To celebrate the opening of Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane's exhibiton, the Caribbean steel drum band Steel Harmony - another of Deller’s long-term collaborators - will perform covers of hits by Joy Division, Buzzcocks and other seminal UK indie bands.

This is one of The Complaints Choir of Edinburgh's public performances on the streets of the city, led by composers Daniel Padden and Peter Nicholson. The Complaints Choir is made up of Edinburgh residents who have come together to sing their complaints outloud. Come and see if you agree!

Offering further context to her exhibition at the museum and insights into her artistic concerns, Ilana Halperin selects and introduces a special screening of films in which artists interact with geological processes, play with the laws of physics and embrace nature’s capacity to create and destroy. Includes films by Joan Jonas, Seth Kelly, Allan McCollum, Takehito Shiina and a new work by Ilana Halperin.

Peter Doig in Conversation with Keith Hartley

Edinburgh-born Peter Doig is one of the most internationally renowned painters working today. To celebrate the first major exhibition of Doig’s work in Scotland, the artist will be in conversation with Keith Hartley, Chief Curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. They will discuss his paintings and works on paper created over the last 10 years, in particular, exploring Doig’s approach to serial motifs and recurring imagery.

This event will take place at Hawthornden Lecture Theatre.

Take off on a magical journey of the imagination this summer. Inspired by the beautiful landscapes featured in our summer exhibitions (Peter Doig and Frederic Edwin Church), create and explore your own fantasy holiday destination, all without stepping foot on a plane!

This event will take place in the Clore Education Centre at the gallery.

EAF Explorers

Designed for children and families, EAF Explorers is a special activity trail through the art festival. Pick up your free EAF Explorers passport and map from participating galleries and learn about some of the art on show by completing a series of fun, creative activities. Complete each activity and get your passport stamped at each gallery, then show us your stamped passport at Sarah Kenchington's Windpipes for Edinburgh at Trinity Apse to receive a special prize. 

EAF Explorers participating galleries:

Dovecot Studios: Mon–Sun, 10.30am–6pm

EAF Guided tours

We'll be running a series of free guided tours throughout the festival - join us for a great way to sample a variety of different works on show and discover new artists. Tours will focus on different aspects of the exhibitions and on different parts of the city. 

Tours will depart from 169 Rose Street.

This is the site of Kenny Watson's The Days & Fascia  and an installation of the first UK showing of Kalleinen and Kalleinen’s The Complaints Choir, a four channel video installation documenting the nine Complaints Choirs created and led by the artists themselves.

Tourists in Residence 2013: The Self-Guided Tour

The Selected Monuments of Edinburgh map can be downloaded.

This year's Tourists in Residence, artists Tom Nolan and Catherine Payton, have created Selected Monuments of Edinburgh, an Edinburgh map, from the unique perspective of artists based in the city. This is a self-directed tour so that you can make your way around the city of Edinburgh in your own time. 

This year's Tourists in Residence have also created the following guided tours: The Debtor's Day Off (11 August & 1 September), A dissociative walk and A symposium (with free tea and coffee).
