Political Martyrs' Monument, Calton Hill
The first in a series of artist-devised walks and audio guides to the Calton Hill area, where Collective will shortly be opening its new home at the City Observatory.
In this edition, Ruth Ewan will create a new work in response to the Political Martyrs' Monument, which visitors will be invited to download as an audio file to accompany the self-guided tour.
Ewan is interested in the dissemination and control of radical ideas. Her work A Jukebox of People Trying to Change The World, a collection of politically engaged songs, exemplifies her method of researching and assembling strands of history, and presenting them in ways that highlight their continued relevance and potential for change.
