Janie Nicoll: Rough Edit
23 July – 9 August 2014
In her new installation Rough Edit, artist Janie Nicoll uses text as the foundation for a cross-platform exploration carried out in collaboration with other contemporary artists. She constructs hybrid works that react to news or current events using object assemblage, text, imagery and performance.
Nicoll's installation in Interview Room 11 is informed by her previous work created for the Old Hairdressers, Glasgow. This large scale collaborative installation employed collage, paint and assemblage in recreating the iconic image of Hokusai’s Wave. Her new work will involve a select group of collaborating artists across the UK, who will send digital images and text works to be included in the final piece; and the general public, who are invited to give written responses.

Alessandro Di Massimo: I'll Be Your Mirror
20 August – 6 September 2014
I’ll Be Your Mirror is an installation of five works by Edinburgh-based Italian artist Alessandro Di Massimo centred on the theme of borders, boundaries, citizenship and European identity. Di Massimo is interested in how borders have changed throughout history and how they reflect those who define them.
Throughout the exhibition, Di Massimo analyses the contemporary idea of the border, focusing his attention on how it lost its basis on architectural and physical features throughout history in favour of political and economical characteristics. His most recent artworks explore optical illusions and video, with the aim of investigating concepts including democracy and economy.
