Keith McCarter: Art in Architecture
11 August – 6 September 2014

Born in Scotland in 1936, Keith McCarter trained at Edinburgh College of Art from 1956 to 1960. After graduation he travelled extensively in Europe and Scandinavia and lived in the USA where he worked as a glass designer. His three-dimensional creations and published writings on the role of the artist working within the built environment established his reputation and have resulted in large-scale commissions and invitations to design and advise on a range of international architectural and landscape projects, including with the late Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe. McCarter’s prominent abstract stainless steel and bronze forms are installed at over 30 locations in the USA, Europe and Africa. This exhibition of limited edition casts includes bronze sculptures Carian Form, Oracle, The Secret and a cast of the working model for The Observer, the full-scale version of which is installed at 1020 19th Street, Washington DC, USA.
